I am very pleased to announce that I am opening my very first photography show in collaboration with my friends at Wonderbound on the first Friday of September. I have been photographing for this world-class dance company since 2010 (how can possibly be that long ago?), and I’m excited to start their new season in the next few days.
This show is a distillation of the last 4-plus years of photographs. I am particularly drawn to the emotional nature of dance- how a line of choreography can express a feeling in a way that words just don’t quite reach. I’ve focused this show on images that I think are particularly emotional, hence “Passion.”
I shot all of these images in real time during rehearsal, either on stage or within the Hares’ home base, Junction Box. There’s no posing, no additional light sources- nothing that might get in the way of the dancers’ ability to tell the story of that moment. And believe me, these dancers can tell one hell of a story.
I hope you will join us for the opening reception at Junction Box on September 5th from 6-8pm. There will also be a brief performance by the Wonderbound Hares at 7pm.
